A valid passport and long stay visa are required for missionary travel to Ireland.

Passport Requirements:

Original, signed passport valid for 12 months beyond stay in Ireland, with at least one blank passport page available for Irish visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Ireland visas.

Ireland Visa Application Form:

One online Irish visa application form. Long Stay Visa Upon completing the online application process, follow the instructions on the summary application form that is created by the online system. The summary form will contain information on where to submit the supporting documentation. The summary form must be printed, signed and dated must be submitted with the supporting documentation.Some applicant’s may be required to provide your Biometric Information as part of the application process.

Photo Requirements:

Two recent, identical, 2 x 2 passport photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/light background. The applicant’s name and visa application reference number must be printed clearly on the back.


OR - you can upload a photo when you place your order, instead of providing physical passport photos.

Other Forms:

  • The applicant’s current Curriculum Vitae (with references).
  • A letter of intent written by the applicant, outlining the applicant’s purpose of travel to Ireland, the length of intended stay in Ireland, name of places to be visited, contact information in Ireland, and accommodation information. Include details of any family members who are currently in Ireland, or any other EU Member State. Also that the applicant will observe the conditions of the visa, will not become a burden on the State, and will leave the State on the expiry of the visa.
  • Originals of any qualifications obtained and/or letter from school/college/university (where applicable).

Business Letter

Letter from church or sponsoring organization in the US, on letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s status/position held in the organization, clearly stating the purpose of visit to Ireland. The letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Ireland.

Proof of Travel Arrangements:

Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or a travel agency or copy of airline ticket showing entry and departure from Ireland.

Medical Requirements:

Proof of valid health/accidental insurance with full international coverage showing minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros (approximately $50,000 US) and coverage for emergency medical expenses and repatriation for medical reasons or death.

Visa Processing Time:

Chicago:The Consulate of Ireland in Chicago is experiencing processing delays due to high seasonal volume. Some delays may occur with the submission and pick up of visa applications. Processing time is currently 60 days. Please take this into account when submitting your visa application.
